Jeff Brown



As a student-centered leader, Jeff Brown (JB) has accumulated nearly 25 years of experience in retention and persistence work for students of color, low income and first generation students. JB earned both his B.A. in Political Science and a M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He then went on to begin his career at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he developed a passion for retention work and dedicated his life to impacting the successful transition and graduation of underserved college students in the city that he loves. JB currently serve as the Director of the African American Academic Network where he oversees programs and academic services that support the successful matriculation of Black students across all academic disciplines.  As a first-generation college student and a native of the South Shore community in Chicago, JB sees his work as a powerful way to give back to his home community while pursuing his passions for social change.
